They knew what they were talking about...

For many years, this was the season for spending lots of time in a hot kitchen canning tomatoes, making jams and jellies, and "putting up" fruits and vegetables to stock our pantry. An amazing feeling of satisfaction would come over me as I opened up cabinets and looked at the jewel-toned canning jars lining the shelves. So far this year, I've made some strawberry jam. In the next few weeks, I'll be making Rosemary Merlot jelly...a favorite among friends and family. Those jars are a great addition to a holiday gift basket. I'll share the recipe when I make the next batch.

I so admire anyone who cans and does her own jellies and jams. The heat, the steam, the mess in this season of the year are too much for me to handle. But the joy of seeing those bottles all filled must be worth it all. Have fun!

What you're doing is so wonderful, practical, and delicious all at the same time. There's great satisfaction to be found in such endeavors.

Good for you! I've never canned anything, but I hope to do some after I can retire.

I have never canned, but I spent many hours watching my mother can in our basement. Your lucky friends to be receiving your jams for Christmas gifts. What neat gifts.

I've never canned anything (I usually freeze) but I really admire people that do. I'm trying to gear up to make apple butter.

Catching Up

It's been awhile...as usual, not much going on.  As I look through photos on my phone, I decided to do a little blog post. Last Monday...
